Facebook has announced a big update on their platform some 2 weeks ago. Reading all the articles on this, I have decided to jump out of my dimension again, and reflect and contemplate if this upgrade improves user experience or a would just be a fluke. Will this patch make users and FB bond alot stronger, knowing that there's a lot of issues this giant is currently facing. Could this really be ...
So, I have gathered some details regarding the patch, list each one and provided some thoughtful insights. These insights are feedbacks if a certain add-on has the possibility on leading to a security risks in the future, recommendations on how a risk can be avoided and mitigated and improvements this could have on the entire community.
Let's get in to it...
FaceDate—Facebook's New Tinder-Like 'Dating' Feature
Pros: This is a big news to all singles and the minglers(if you know what I mean) who looks for the oppurtunity to find their much anticipated soulmates online. I think this will increase the rate of popularity of 'virtual relationship' which comes to be next norm of socialization. This will also improve human skills of interaction with people around the globe, get to know their culture, and unite as one strenghtened human specie...
Cons:
* First major concern, the fake profile. I think facebook must set restrictions and elevate their user identity check. Anyone can create a profile, not matching their own identity. I recommend to strictly implement..
a.)profile hook-up on legit facebook account - Upon account creation, Facebook must first validate that the user possessed a legitimate account. They sure have ways on identity check, but they still need to further improve this feature.
b.)improvements on image tagging process- FB has done a great job with regards to image classifications. One major concern here is the tagging process on every FaceDate accounts. User must have at least 10 pictures tagged on his/her legitimate accounts. Each picture must contain another tagged friends to validate identity.
Feedback: I'm giving this a neural output.
*Nudity Banned - A captain of obvious of this feature, a content rated-SPG. This will be up to the facebook team and their goals on creating this addon. If they ever wanted to maintain FB to be a 'classy' application (which right now I think they've done a terrible job)they must banned nudity. Abusive content, nude images, and the like, must be prohibited. Engineers must find a way to filter out those abusive image by image classification.
Facebook Adds 'Clear History' Tool
There is nothing much more I can say but a total upgrade on security is a benefit of this add on. Information, logs and activities from the applications/websites associated with your facebook account will now be monitored and managed. With the clear history tool, ads and some marketing resources will no longer appear on your account, thus minimizing bloatware.
Real Time Language Translations In Facebook Messenger
This will be a step-ahead upgrade specially on carrying out personal messages. With this spectacular feature, users on different races and languages would be able to collaborate well with the aid of this feature. Just like Google and Skype, Facebook has elevated its chat with the adaptation of a machine learning algorithm that could convert a text conversation into a language that the AI could understand.
Integrate augmented reality (AR) camera effects for Messenger Platform
Though FB dev team, has just confirmed the status of this project as closed beta, AR camera effects can be added to a bot to engage users in a more interactive ways. They are also bringing it on Instagram and FB Lite. Also they are launching this feature for businesses as they can now virtually try and customize merchandise by launching camera and use their specific brand AR effect.
Simplifications to Messenger's interface.
Due to a number of bloatware and some unnecessary that the later FB Messenger contain, dev team has decided to rebuild the Messenger app and take away games and camera tabs from the navigation bar. This upgrade would cause an increase in performance of our own messaging application. A big thumbs up on this upgrade!
Facebook has also introduced a new way for people to share from their favorite apps, like Spotify and GoPro, to both Facebook and Instagram Stories.
Another way of increasing the FB's headaches regarding SPAM or SPIM(instant messaging SPAM). This update would be great and would surely help users share alot of stuff about themselves. But the more added features on sharing resource, the more susceptible an application be on SPAM. I think the FB team should be more concern on this dilemma, as they need to take in to account that not all resources are safe to share. I would recommend a tool that would perform a progressive scan on every object to be share on, once validate safe that would be the only time that the user can share. This one's a thumbs-down.
Launching group tabs
This add-on would be great, as for right now I am sick and tired of typing the group name or navigating through my profile to seek for the group I want to go to. Having a separated tab for groups, would make the user's lives much better for group tab would be same as with friend's tab as user would only need to search for the group name. Another thumbs up for this!
WhatsApp Group Calling
WhatsApp has been circling alot of controversies for the past months. But let us put that down for now, and give some praise on this upgrade. I've been using WhatsApp for quite some time now, and adding group call on its realm, will surely give the users a huge twist. This add-on would be great as users could now collaborate with more than a single users. Conference calls like family chats, business meeting and some friends collaborations will all be possible but would only limit in just a certain number of users. Right now I don't have yet the idea on the max number of users involved, but this is a thumbs-up for me.
I bet this upgrade sure did is a wide 'step-up'. I guess M.Z. et.al has done a great job listening on the users wishlist. There are some more though, that I and some others would wish to be implemented on the King of all Social Net. Setting aside alot of speculations, Facebook will continue to progress and as what the team has promised, our data and informations will always be protected. We hope and should be.
